As the fashion capital of the world hosts the 2024 Olympic games, sports and styles meet at a crossroad. The spark produced by this coming together of sports and styles is the display of elegance beauty in a uniform.
The journey of Olympic fashion dates to long years of existence and the 2024 edition is not taking a different tune as 206 National Olympic Committees and one IOC Refugee Olympic Team brace up for the ceremony.
Here is brief insight to some of the uniform styles of some of the participating countries, we have decided to take you through the exciting uniforms of ten of the participating countries that stands out among others.
TEAM MONGOLIA: The uniform designed by Michel and Amazonka within 3 months, features a plethora of embroideries with significant meanings: birds for freedom, mountains as a nod to the nation’s landscapes and hardwork, gold and silver accents for a touch of elegance and the Mongolian national colours of blue, red and white to signal their pride and identity.
TEAM CANADA: The team’s Olympic collection was designed by the Vancouver-born brand Lululemon. the athletic apparel have designed a collection that helps solve athletes’ holistic needs from a performance fabrics to avant-grade construction, whilst keeping them stylish with bespoke Canadian prints in the process.
TEAM USA: The USA team go into the 2024 edition of the Olympic with a 14-piece custom collection designed by Ralph Lauren, the design has a patriotic nod to the States’ signature red, white and blue. The design is a
preppy blue wool blazer for the opening ceremony and a race-car style white jacket for the closing ceremony
TEAM FRANCE: The goal of the French brand Berluti when kitting out the host nation was to embody true elegance. The modern tuxedo features a contemporary colour blend of the French flag, designed to invoke pride within the athletes as they are poised for a successful tournament on home soil.
TEAM CZECHIA: The team’s collection for this year’s Olympic comes in a multitude of colors; from black bags and jackets to white hoodies, blue tracksuits and red trainers. The designer of the uniform Alpine Pro said the inspiration for the design came from 1924 Olympic in France where some athletes wore white with the national flag, some wore black and some ditched the suits for a more comfortable tracksuit, to him this is why this year’s collection combined functionality with design and national colour.
TEAM EGYPT: Egypt will march out for the Olympic in a concrete’s iconic designed wear. The outfitter is made form premium Egyptian cotton, the monochrome collection features nods to the Egyptian flag and colours as a symbol of pride, passion and determination to win. The fancy made suits feature premium lightweight fabrics perfect for the Parisian heat.
TEAM REPUBLIC OF KOREA: Republic of Korea will wear a clean, lightweight belted suit setup from Musinsa Standard. According to the designers, the design incorporates a subdued shade of byeokcheong colour which symbolizes the East, reflecting youthful vigor and progressive spirit.
TEAM TÜRKIYE: Vakko which is a luxury Turkish brand has paired the nation’s unmissable deep red with sky blue which is referred to as the colour of peace to create a stylish collection of travel and ceremony kits from the Olympic. This choice of this tricolour collection for the Olympic is because Paris 2024 marks 100 years since Türkiye’s first Olympic games as a republic.
TEAM SIERRA LEONE: The designer of this year Olympic outfitter is Sierra Leonean designer and founder of British African heritage brand. It paired Iconography that speaks to the nation’s heritage with a vibrant blue and white design for a modern take that pays homage to its history. The kit features a vibrant blue and white design, emblazoned with a reimagined cowrie shell, the cowrie shell which is an emblem of strength and resilience infuses each garment with a deep sense of heritage and pride, while paying homage to their stories of perseverance, strength and resilience to succeed in this year’s games.
TEAM HAITI: The team’s uniform was designed by an Italian fashion designer Stella Jean. The uniform for the female athletes is a full skirt paired with a chambray shirt woven in Haiti whilst the male counterparts will sport a field jacket inspired by Guayabera which is a classic Haitian shirt. Her collaboration with Haitian artist Philippe Dodard to incorporate his artwork paid homage to her native Haitian roots.
